This small youth market book on the "Silver Fox" is well done. Part of a mid-70s series on popular singers of the day, it is a good summary of Rich's career with illustrations. Covers Rich's long climb to eventual success and his love for jazz piano and the blues at which he excelled. Charlie wasn't really a fan of country music initially so it was ironic that he gained worldwide fame in that genre. However, Charlie and his producer, Billy Sherrill, added a sophistication to country music which was labeled "countrypolitan" becoming both very popular but also controversial. Country purists didn't like it and rebelled. Charlie, however, had tremendous success - he was the "Garth Brooks" of the seventies. At one point, Charlie had three "albums" in the top three positions on the country charts for six weeks - an unheard of achievement. His "Behind Closed Doors" album sold in the millions. Charlie came out of retirement in 1992 to record "Pictures and Paintings" - a beautiful small combo jazz and blues CD with Charlie on piano and vocals. Now what is needed is a "biography" of Charlie for adults.
