Romance and the Blue Moon.

A Romance originally published in 1922, that holds up very well into the 21st century. The story concerns the usual unrepentent Alpha male, Charles, and the usual very innocent young lady, Toby. Charles is a dissolute, careless hedonist. Toby is, seemingly, an orphan with a mysterious past. What raises this above the stereotypical is the writing's verve and energy. Toby, disguised as a boy, is discovered by Charles stowed away on his yacht. She begs to stay, Charles agrees. She maintains the disguise, unaware that Charles has figured it out. Bored Charles is amused by Toby's devotion. The yacht is rammed and sunk one foggy night. Charles saves her life, but the masquerade is over. To protect her reputation he leaves her with friends. But Charles finds that he cannot simply walk away from her and his feelings. There are a two subplots involving Toby's parentage and Charles' ugly reputation. This was a really fast moving, enjoyable romance with an interesting look at English society after the devastation of World War One. Recommended.
