An interesting take on the Roland legend, with the eponymous hero in this incarnation being the son of Charlemagne himself and a witch--thus being somewhat supernatural. A subplot involving manifestations of pagan deities as swords gets rather convoluted, but the overall story is still fairly enjoyable, despite several historical inaccuracies. A good read for any fantasy fan, especially (in my estimation) young adults.
