Moving

This fascinating book tells the story of the Lowland Mennonites, of the persecution they faced, and their journey from the Lowlands, to the Vistula Delta, to Russia, and finally on to New World. This is a story, told in the form of an epic, which not only tells the history of the movement of the Mennonites, but explains their beliefs and shows their witness is a very personal and moving way. I must say that this book rather reminds me of James A. Michener's Covenant. I mean, it tells the story of a people, and how they moved and changed throughout history, and does so by following a family and their experiences. Each individual followed tells the reader something more about the Mennonites and makes their history so much more human than a non-fictional book ever could. I loved this book, which repeated much that I already knew about Mennonite history, but brought that history home to me in a very moving way. If you are at all interested in the Mennonites, then I highly recommend this book to you. Heck, if you just want a good book about Christians living their faith, then this is also the book for you. I highly recommend this book!

Inspirational saga describing the Low German Mennonite story

Epp's historical novel is a great introduction for people wanting to learn the faith-saga development of Low German Mennonites during the last 400 years. Somewhat like Alex Haley's ROOTS, we read the experiences of these people as they travel throughout Europe searching for religious freedom. Highly recommended.
