Book Overview

"We have become overfocused on what people think rather than how they think it, to the detriment of the therapeutic process. These authors are to be highly commended for their original contributions to this issue. . . They have something useful to say to practicing psychoanalysts, but most of those who will find this book useful are quite experienced workers who are questioning their own techniques and trying to expand their therapeutic skills." --...

A lot of good stuff but very difficult to read because of the writing!

I am not surprised at all to note that there isn't any review of this book, despite the fact that it was first published in the late 80's. I have had this book for quite a long time, ever since I have been fascinated by mindsets, paradigms and belief systems. In my search for better understanding of these subjects, I have amassed a large number of books and articles. This book was among the first few books I have laid my hands on. I have had to read it several times to get what I wanted. Actually, there are a lot of good stuff here but because of the writing, the reading was made very difficult as the intellectual regimen and conceptual intensity were overwhelming for a layman. They almost killed me! You can safely say that the book is packed with plenty of psychoanalytical babble. Nevertheless, I am quite happy I managed to get it read after several attempts. In a nut shell, this book is about how to break through the barriers that prevent us from experiencing the hapiness we seek. In essence, it is about how to restore and exercise our freedom of choice. Although it is written from a therapeutic perspective, and is intended for psycho-therapists, the authors have packed the book with vivid and detailed case illustrations.
