I recently had the opportunity to read "Change Your Relationship with Food" by Vickie Champion. Her approach teaches us not how to control our weight, but rather how to change our relationship with food. The book consists of 12 easy to read chapters, made easy to understand through the use of simple language. The book explains how you can have either a painful or a joyous relationship with food. The painful relationship is about sacrifice, guilt, deprivation, and obsession. The joyous relationship is about lack of worry, peace, happiness, and acceptance. These things are attained when you start relying on The Holy Spirit. One of the chapters that really hit home for me discusses how we use our bodies for comparision and self-punishment. I have found myself doing these things many times throughout my life. For instance, I often compare myself to the women on television who all seem to have perfect, flawless bodies. As a result, I punish myself by not eating, in hopes that I too can attain that perfect body. This book taught me to accept everything just as it is and to trust in The Holy Spirit. Reading "Change Your Relationship with Food" has totally changed my thoughts aout food. I no longer feel guilty for eating a piece of cake and I have stopped comparing my body to those of others. This book has truly inspired me and I believe it will do the same for millions. After reading this book and applying the principles, you will look at your relationship with food differently and you will no longer constantly obsess about food. It is very comforting.
