The one travel book you must have

If you only have time or energy or funds for one travel book, Jillian Robinson's "Change your life" is the book for you. Instead of reading dozens of too-short, too-hyped descriptions of specific places or specific routes, you will learn about (or be reminded of) a whole lot of ways to think about travel, both planning and experiencing. Not only does the author present compelling examples of how travel will change your life, she writes so well that you want to read the book just for the flow of the words. I haven't had a chance to take a major trip since I read this book, but it has made me rethink how I approach otherwise hum-drum local junkets and even exploring the wooded hills beyond my pastures. A great first book and let's hope there will be more from this promising author.

An excellent supplement for vacationers

Award-winning travel documentary filmmaker Jillian Robinson presents Change Your Life Through Travel, a guide to achieving personal growth through integrating the life lessons of famous explorers and writers, and learning more about oneself and the world through experiencing wonders abroad. Interspersed with beautiful color photographs, Change Your Life Through Travel does not offer specific travel plans or routes, but rather is packed with ideas for taking charge of the pleasurable, spiritual, and life-enriching aspects of travel. From learning how to slow down and live in the moment, to daring to defy convention and celebrating individuality, to bolstering self-esteem by stepping out of one's rut, Change Your Life Through Travel is an enthusiastically positive guide, and an excellent supplement for vacationers looking to get the most emotional and spiritual value out of their miles spent far from home.

I'd rather stay home... with a good book!

This morning, instead of my usual spiritual reading, I picked up Jillian Robinson's book. I started reading it yesterday, and I just felt compelled to see where we were going today. There's plenty in the book to hold my attention, but I love the stories of other travelers and the author's photos best. She makes me want to be with her in conversation with those travelers, and has me wishing I could hold her camera bag. I'm one of those guys who finds joy everywhere, so for now, I think I'll skip the trip and enjoy the book!

Hemingway Would Be Proud

I enjoyed this work tremendously. Ms. Robinson obviously researched the facts thoroughly, then combined them to illustrate her theme, how travel can change your life. Included in her personal travel research was a visit to Hemingway's Cuban home. His style must have rubbed off on her. Her sentences were simple and crisp, flowing logically. I found her descriptions of the locales very vivid, employing a multitude of colorful adjectives and power verbs. I recommend this work to anyone who has traveled extensively. For those who have not traveled a great deal, this work may motivate them to do so.

Discover the joys of living a more abundant life on the road -- or home!

In order to get value from this book, you do not need to be an experienced traveler or someone who has been privileged to take exotic vacations. You need to be someone who enjoys the feeling of being on the road, and someone who wants to sustain the peace of mind and heightened energy of that mindset long after returning home. This book is about how to make your life more joyous using travel as the springboard. It touches on afternoon mystery dates, weekend jaunts, exotic travels and clusters these ideas around 8 core themes. It is an inspirational compilation of travel stories designed to help reconnect one with the thrill of being more spontaneous and adventurous. This is not so much a book about travel, as it is a description of the mindset we should all strive for while trekking down the road of life. A fun read that I highly recommend!
