A Two-Author Triumph

In my review of September 13th I inadvertently failed to mention the co-author, Dr. Erik Lindbloom, whose chapters in the book, "Challenging Diagnoses" are written in the same crisp, insightful style that characterizes Dr. McCahill's treatment. This book is a testament to the two authors who collaborated in its production.

An uncommonly comprehensive view of common disorders.

"Challenging Diagnoses" challenges the physician to view the common complaints likely to be seen in the typical family practice with an uncommonly scrutinizing gaze. The writing is spare and to the point with a minimal use of jargon. The logic of the presentation matches the logic that would be used by a skilled clinician in a busy practice--a logic that would lead to a comprehensive analysis of the case. Never forgotten is the human equation which is implicit in the case examples given. The insight into the often neglected human factors in illness undoubtedly comes in part from Dr. McCahill's training as a psychiatrist as well as a family practitioner. This book is highly recommended. One can dip into it in free moments to glean pearls of clinical wisdom. I wish that this book had been available during my medical school days and later training.
