Challenges of applying Safety Engineering in Civil Construction

The Brazilian construction industry has undergone countless transformations, making the sector one of the most important in the country, both for the economy and for labour. In proportion to the increase in the labour force, the number of accidents has grown significantly. The aim of this study was therefore to identify and prevent risks to the health and safety of workers on the construction site of the Social Service for Industry (SESI) in Mar lia, S o Paulo, Brazil. To this end, a bibliographical review was carried out based on the principles and concepts of risks, the Regulatory Standard governing Civil Construction, NR-18. An analysis methodology was then set up in order to classify the risks found in each work sector. So a risk analysis was carried out, which made it possible to establish the risks found in each sector of the construction process, thus being able to assess and propose accident improvements in each sector assessed. The analysis proposed a study that serves as the basis for a review of the current practice and policy of worker health care, opening up space for new studies and discussions.
