Celebrating the Wild Mushroom: A Passionate Quest written by Sara Ann Friedman is a fascinating little tome. All about a journey, an infatuation into the world of fleshy fungi. This book takes the reader on a road less traveled, a road of little-known, somewhat mysterious and remarkable, to a world about the collection of mushrooms. The author has a somewhat lyrical narrative throughout the book as she describes how she collects, draws and cooks the mushrooms she collects. She has many delightful recipes within the book as you read... many of these recipes are a collection of themselves and are culled from other devotes collectors around the country. As she describes the delicious edibles, you can imagine the unique flavors as you see the richly detailed illustrations. This book can be used as an illustrative supplement to a field guide as she writes about spore color, size and shape; usually the most important determining factor to many closely look-a-like mushroom species. If you can find this jewel of a book around, by all means, it is well worth the money. As this is a very literate, readable book for the person with a mycocentric bent, and a very wise adjunct for all mycophiles to own.
