cd-r/dvd disk recording demystified

made a difficult subject for me to understand much easier. very well written.

Demystified is the perfect title, "how do they do that?"

Very in-depth look at the world of CD and DVD recording. I have used the information and knowledge from this book in both my professional and personal life. After having a better understanding of the media I am creating with is absolutely invaluable. It will empower you to make the right choices on computer hardware and type of speeds you will need to work with along with answering the always-asked question of "how do they do that?"Two thumbs up!

Great content

Good book for overall look at the market of DVD/CDR. Explains all the processes in detail and I enjoyed the interviews with industry gurus. I also like that the CD has the book in PDF format so that the whole volume is fully searchable. This makes it easy to find the exact information you are looking for.The only thing I didn't like is that the CD was not built as a cross-platform disc (seems like a no brainer considering the material). What this means is that Macintosh users will have to live with truncated files names and zero trial software. But if what you are after is great content about this subject, then this is a good book for you.

Remarks from the field

First, let me get past the obligatory disclaimer. I wrote Chapter 8 of this book (about disc duplicators), so naturally I have a bit of a favorable bias. However, if you can accept that bias for what it's worth, read on.Lee Purcell's book is the most up to date and comprehensive publication in this field today. As quickly as technology advances in optical data storage, it's impossible for any writer to provide all the answers to all the latest questions, but Purcell has come very close to doing that, in a readable, accurate, comprehensive document. I've read many of his books, and this is the best one yet.If you want to know what is going on in the field of CD/DVD recording today and understand the broad applications as well as the underlying technology, buy this book and read it.

In depth and up to date

This book is in-depth and up to date (includes references to Windows 2000). A great job of explaining all the information I was looking for; Green book to DVD-18.circa. 8-2000
