Cat's pajamas, doodley-doo. Kitties on the prowl, two by two This rhythmic book of hip cats, cool cats, and all kinds of other cats is a hand-clapping good read that's ideal for children ages one and up.
I happened across this book at the library when my son was a year old, and now at 15 months, I'm getting him his own copy. Although it says it's for 18 months and up, this is suitable for younger children~ I wish we'd found it sooner. If you & your child like to play games with clapping or a beat to them, and you don't mind putting a catty-sounding whine in your voice to emphasise certain words (meow, chow, howl, yowl, and growl), this is very easily one of the most enjoyable books I've found to make interactive. This book had my little boy grabbing a rattle and making a beeline for my lap when he saw me pick it up. I'd lightly bounce him from side to side while I shook the rattle (except for the "Hey! Cool it cats!" part) and read through the short, rhyming pages. As another reviewer mentioned, the length of the text is perfectly suited for babies; Although my son will discard some of his books about two-thirds of the way through, he will happily bounce through this one to the very end. The brightly accented, loosely rendered beatnik cats and cityscapes/alleyscapes are wonderfully expressive. There's also a shadowy cat that appears on each layout that makes for a fun hide and seek element within the book, although once your child is familiar with the story, they'll have their finger on it the moment you turn the page.

we stumbled across this book at the pub library when my little boy was 6 months old and he loved it even then. I quickly ordered a copy and it is still one of his favorites now that he's turned 2. He can say the whole ryme now as I turn the pages. Really a good book when you've worn out the classic bedtime books (good dog carl, goodnight gorilla, goodnight moon, etc.)
great board book!

My eight month old loves this book! She also loves Zoom City by the same author. I am a children's librarian and have noticed a trend towards making a lot of picture books into board books. While that is fine for durability, it is misleading as many people will think any book in board format is for babies. This is not the case any longer. But THIS is a great book for babies - simple, colorful illustrations (lots of faces to look at)- a few words per page- fun rhyme- and it is just the right length. I also enjoy reading it to her.
Our FAVORITE!!

My daughter (who is only 4 months old) absolutely loves this book. It is funny, interesting, and hip. My husband and I don't even mind reading it over and over. (Although we find the catchy phrases hopelessly stuck in our heads!) :)
colorful, jazzy, fun book

What a refreshing board book! My 2 year old son loves the colorful night time scenes of cats in their pajamas having fun in the big city before settling down to sleep. The simple yet jazzy text is fun to read in beat-poet way. A great, non-cutesy-wootsy book for toddlers and preschoolers.
