Wholesome fun

I enjoyed Cat's Cradle games when I was a child. I am introducing it to my daughter. This book has the basics...and a plus that they don't tell you in the listing (I don't remember seeing it anyway) is that it comes with a nice long blue cat's cradle string to begin with. This is great for restaurants, car trips and waiting in grocery store lines.

Fantastic and Cheap Fun

This is an activity that has been around for so long. I am glad that it still remains pretty popular. I think more parents should introduce activities like this to their kids. It is inexpensive, easy to learn, and offers a variety of tricks for different skill levels. I purchased this book for my 8 year old daughter. I wanted her to have other activities then TV, video games, and the computer. This is going to be a x-mas present so she has not seen it yet. She has never done string tricks before either so it will be fun to help her. (if she wants me too) I was pleasantly surprised to find the book did come with the string. I did not realize this and thought I had to order one. (I may have missed it in the description) I believe the book will be easy for her to follow. The instructions and pictures are clear. This will be a great activity for car rides, restaurants, and those long waits at the doctors office. Especially with flu season so she doesn't have to touch the other toys and books that may have germs on them. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an easy activity for children ages 7-12.

what i think of the book

i think the book is good for a lot of people who are in to strings and other things that would keep people busy. i also like that this book would teach alot of people what other nations do when they have free time. when i frist read this book i was in the 7th grade and i loved it i also learned most of the tricks and i would love to read it again so i could learn more.

Easy-to-use, large illustrations

User-friendly, with large clear pictures & explanations of how to move both strings & fingers. Also the steps of Cat's Cradle for partner play.

Makes learning string games easy and fun even for beginners

This is a terrific introduction to the fascinating art of string games. The author takes you from step one (how to tie your string together) through hand positions and basic terminology and then on into the string games themselves - starting from the easy ones and finally on to the complex two-person "Cat's Cradle." The clear descriptions of each move and easy-to-understand diagrams make this book easy to follow for even the most uncoordinated and uninitiated! I found that by using the book to learn the games myself, and then teaching them to my children (ages 7 and 6), we were able to benefit from some great quality time!
