This cataloge has lots of detailed info on American cars. I found it very useful. I thought that the shipping of it took a little longer than necessary, but I am over-all pleased with it and use it as a great reference.
Great basic resource when purchasing/evaluating a car

The above review is ridiculously harsh. Yes, most of the VIN and engine/trans code info is available on the net, but few of us have the luxury of a wireless connection when we're out in someone's garage trying to buy their car. This is a great carry-along to help give you good information on decoding the VIN tags and trim tags present on most cars. Depending on the car, this can tell you what engine should be in the car, what colors it was built in, options, the area it was delivered to new, etc. All very useful in deducing the desirability and honesty of the car in front of you. Highly recommended. From the hundreds of cars I've inspected, I've found the info in the book to be at least 95% accurate, which is quite good, in my experience.
