Tension is growing between the Ferals and Indoors, and the old Cat Master, spiritual leader of all felines, is dying. Time is running out, and he must choose a successor that will rule wisely and keep peace among their kind.
This is the first book in a while that I have read thru at one all night sitting. It has all the elements needed to make it a best seller whether for a child or an adult. it's beautifully written and emotionally engaging. I am anxious to read more from this author
Sure to be a classic

As a cat-lover, I dove into this book expecting a pleasant afternoon's escape read--something to while away a few idle moments. Little did I expect to be caught up in a mythic battle that kept me on the edge of my seat. Battle lines are drawn; good and evil clash; but the black and white turn to shades of grey. Pemberton creates full rich characters which rise above the stereotypes of hero and villain. Her four legged characters become real on the page and make the reader care about them and their lives. I disagree with the age category listed with the book. I am recommending this book to all my adult friends--cat-lovers or not--as one they will enjoy rereading many times.
Not just for children

Nine-to ninety-year-olds will find these characters and their adventure together enchanting, and the publisher has created a handsome volume. I'm ordering copies for my favorite adult friends, my children, and my grandchildren. And one of my great-grandchildren. I'm not telling the others because they can't read yet. All of them will love Buddy the Cat, Orrie, the lizard with an attitude, the possum with the insatiable appetite, and the rest of these unique creatures, created by a writer who, it is obvious, truly loves animals. Modern Day Myth
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 17 years ago
The Cat Master is so much more than an engaging animal tale. This first novel truly is a modern day myth--fresh and imaginative--engaging and suspenseful. Pemberton has a way of creating animal characters that you care about--that seem more real then the people next door. In a distinctive lyrical voice she tells a story that's impossible to put down. This is a must read for anyone who loves animals and adventure. The illustrations are stunning. Another added bonus.

Ms. Pemberton has a wonderfully unique story and such a knack for weaving a fanciful tale from a perspective you may never have considered before. You'll fall in love with her four legged characters--be it feline, canine or reptilian. An entertaining story from the beginning to the end and twelve to one hundred and twelve will enjoy this book!
