Another incredible book in the series

If you're reasonably bright, pay attention on the floor and read this book carefully, you will rock the shelf. Over half of the exam is straight out of this book, and the material is presented in such a way that it's retained. On top of that, it's a book that I actually don't hate to read (ie. blueprints). My only gripe is that it doesn't cover IUGR much at all, a topic that the shelf hit several times. This book is far and away the best way to get a quick and painless introduction to the subject.

Most Efficient Resource for Shelf Exam

Echoing the sentiments of previous reviewers, this book basically has 30-40% of the Ob/Gyn shelf within its pages. A lot of my friends read the book as well and were similarly amazed at its mimcry. Some of the questions seem to directly stem from the 60 cases in this text. You're hurting yourself by NOT reading this. It provides a good foundation for the major scenarios you might encounter in Ob/Gyn. It's particularly effective because the Ob/Gyn shelf is really specialized to the field and doesn't have too many general medicine questions like other clerkship tests. That said, it should be noted this is not a textbook. You won't really get the ins and outs of fetal monitoring, birth, etc. This book is best utilized about a week from the exam or very early with the intent of RETAINING the specific scenarios. A good book to read to fully flesh out the subject would be Blueprints in Ob/Gyn. A quick, effective read that's the easiest way to bettering your shelf score. If you enjoy your off time in med school, this is a great way to cram.

Great for shelf exam

I found this book to be very useful review for the shelf exam. It was a quick read that was VERY high yield. I have this book to thank for my HONORS on the OB/Gyn shelf.

Great book.

This book was great for OB Rotation. Light enough to have in your backpack and during those nights on call. We had an OSCE at the end of the rotation and this book helped to get you into that mode of thinking. Diagnosis, what to do next, Treatment. It also gives you a lot of background information about the disease and pathophysiology. Would definitely recommend it.

WOW! I am now a Case Files addict.....

I wholeheartedly reccommend Case Files : Ob/Gyn by Toy. I was actually on Ob/Gyn at St. Joseph's Hospital in Houston with Dr. Toy, and he went through the book case by case with us. This guy has truly been the best teaching attending I have ever been around. I plan to buy his books for every rotation they are available for from here on out. This book is golden. During the shelf exam, easily 50% of the questions were straight from the book! This book is ESSENTIAL to the Ob/Gyn rotation in the third year of medical school!
