CARRUTHERS: and The Giant Eagle

CARRUTHERS and The Giant Eagle, is the first in a series of Middle Grade, to Pre-teen fantasy adventure novels. The stories, with a Christian spiritual flavor are about the telepathic powers of an eight-year-old adopted Caucasian boy, named Carruthers. He lives on a farm adjoining the Kruger National Park with his mother, Maureen Finch and his cruel step-father Donald Finch. Carruthers develops the ability to communicate, using love-waves, with most animals, such as lions, but in particular a gigantic Eagle named Edgar, who becomes his friend and who flies him around. This huge creature inhabits a cave in the depths of an extinct volcano. Together with Carruthers, and his best friend Joe, who is a typical African youngster with dreadlocks and who throws bones, the trio make a formidable team as they become entangled in some remarkable exploits. People, who look up and see an enormous Eagle in the sky, carrying a small boy, are transfixed and rumors about supernatural spirits spread wildly among the rural folk. Game wardens too, in the Kruger National Park, are dumbfounded as they observe Carruthers, mounted on the back of a wild elephant, instructing troupes of other elephants to build a firebreak during a raging wildfire. Carruthers and Joe also solve the mystery of some stolen chickens in an hilarious episode. En route, Carruthers encounters his guardian angel, Honor, who helps him during difficult situations. One such time, is when he has to face the rage of his racist step-father, who he hates. Lighter moments in the book, are when Carruthers and Joe take the Goldman twins, Tammy and Beth, galloping on their horses for the first time. Carruthers has two pets, a dog named Bonzo and a cat named Siaytee. At times for fun, he mischievously entices the cat to scratch at his step-father, Donald Finch who becomes enraged. The second volume in the Series entitled, 'Carruthers and The Gold Coin Swindle', encounter Carruthers and Joe, now a little older. The boys have moved with their families to adjoining farms, closer to suburbia. Both Edgar the Eagle and Carruthers have perfected their telepathic skills, transmitting and receiving live moving images, one to another. In this exciting book, Carruthers and Joe along with Edgar the Eagle, become involved with a trio of unscrupulous characters who have discovered a way of stealing gold Krugerrands. With Joe as his sidekick and Edgar as his long distance eyes, Carruthers, together with Detective George Zwele, in some hilarious moments, successfully crack this dangerous case. As these events unfold, Carruthers' real father, Franklin C. Riley arrives on the scene. He is the owner of a boutique hotel chain called, The Frason Boutique Hotel Group. Apart from the emotional impact their meeting has on both Carruthers and his mother Maureen, Franklin Riley wants to get Carruthers and Joe, with the help of Edgar the eagle, to solve a mystery for him. This leads us into ... the third volume in the Series, 'Carruthers and The Homecoming'. Carruthers and Joe now in their pre-teens, together with Edgar the Eagle, come face to face with pure evil in the form of twin brothers Henry and Duncan Elliot. These twins have a vendetta against Mr Riley, by burning down one hotel after the other. Carruthers with Joe and Edgar the eagle, after a dangerous chase, hunt down the arsonists and finally bring them to justice. This third book unites with the first two, towards a satisfying ending, but leaves the door open for further novels in the 'CARRUTHERS' Series.
