This engaging story celebrates the joy of learning to read. "Carlo reads to Crackers the cat. Carlo reads with his friend Nevil. Carlo reads to a baby." Carlo the giraffe likes reading-and wherever he goes, Carlo reads everything he sees: at his house, on the street, in the park, at the market, and, of course, in the library. Jessica Spanyol's simple story and cleverly labeled illustrations invite us to point, say, and read through the day with Carlo-and her bright, fun artwork will appeal to readers and nonreaders alike.
My daughter is WILD about this book---a great reading starter!

My almost 3 year old is completely and totally taken with this book! We are reading it many, many times a day. It's such a simple yet somewhat unique concept---a giraffe goes through his day reading the labels which are on everything in his environment. They are not labeled like Richard Scarry books, but have pictures of actual labels attached to them with strings. It looks so cute when things like a row of ants are labeled! I think this book is giving my daughter the idea that you can read the name of anything---not that someone that young really needs to learn that yet, but if there's a book that she loves and which teaches also, that's fine with me! Her favorite page shows Carlo reading a baby book to a baby giraffe. The book shows reading as a enjoyable everyday activity. I really do highly recommend it!
