Caregiving: An Errand of the Heart : Survival Tips for Caregivers (Paperback) by Marguerite M. Eliason This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book is compassionate and edifying. Everyone who loves another, a friend or family member, will at sometime have opportunity to give care to that loved one for a short or extended time. The lessons and examples of intelligent and effective service to anyone in need are found in this inspiring book. It is comprehensive, and applicable to any challenge a caregiver may face. The authors are qualified to treat the subject with authority, having had personal experience and success with the challenges of loving and caring for others.
Exactly what I needed at a critical moment in my life!

I can't say enough good about this wonderful little book. Easy to read without being condescending, full of immediately helpful and easy-to-apply suggestions, and even gently humorous (okay, I burst out laughing in several places when I wasn't crying), "Caregiving: An Errand of the Heart" is a book I'm recommending to all my friends and neighbors who find themselves (or someone they love) suddenly thrust in the role of caregiver. The book traces the experiences of one caregiver in particular, but the author has garnered suggestions from many other sources. She doesn't claim that caring for your loved one at home is the only way to go--she offers criteria by which to decide (and help the loved one decide) on the best course of action for a unique set of circumstances. This is NOT a book about how to give bed baths and administer medication, although some terrific practical advice is given. More important (for me, anyway) is the emphasis on the well-being and survival of the caregiver and his or her family, as well as on the loved one receiving care. At the end of the book is a helpful section entitled "Suggested Readings and Resources" that will send the reader to even more sources of help for that critical moment when it appears the world is caving in. Besides being helpful to me, this book makes a wonderful gift. (And who doesn't know someone who's just beginning--or in the middle of--a caregiving challenge?)
