Book Overview

Sakura Kinomoto was just an average 4th Grader--loved P.E., hated math--until one day, while looking through her father's library, Sakura found the Clow, an enchanted book designed to hold a set of magical Clow Cards. But when Sakura opened the book, it was empty. Talk about disasters Kerberos, the Creature of the Seal, emerged from the cover of the book and told Sakura the cards must be returned to the book. If the cards aren't in the book, they...

37 More cards to Capture in 2 Volumes...

Now Sakura has 15 cards under her control. And only 3 were caught in this volume ~ Maze, Erase and Glow. That leaves 37 cards to be captured in volumes 5 and 6. So no doubt most aren't even shown being captured. This volume, Sakura finds her way out of the maze with the help of the new teacher, she goes on a Field Trip and a festival distracts her from the more vicious cards. That's the plot in a nutshell. Overall I thought this volume was a little lacking. It seemed to just fill up a void. But still is a great read. It's also shown that Li is slowly warming up to Sakura though he admits his feelings for Yukito. And we also find out some background info about Li. Cardcaptor Sakura has gorgeous art and the storyline is superb. I recommended this series to anyone new to Manga as it's just one of the best series ever out there. If you like CCS, you'll also like Fruits Basket. I guarantee it.

And The Hilarity Insues...

Always read lighthearted manga with a friend...case and point. The first novel was above average and CLAMP was able to move away from the collection + cute = pokemon stereotype. The second novel includes several 'adult themes' the largest of which are the developing relationships between Sakura and Tomoyo...it is quite sudden and much like the sailor Uranus and Neptune relation...except without Sakura's knowledge. "I love you Sakura" "I love you too Tomoyo..." *Sakura walks away* "No, I mean I LOVE you Sakura" The newest character, Li, develops a gender defying relationship with Yuki...once again without Sakura or Yuki's knowledge...I think this will have a deeper (non sexual) meaning later in the novels. Anyway, its light hearted manga goodness from those what brought you the Magic Knights Rayearth.

Sakura All the Way! ^_^

Cardcaptors Sakura #1 rox da house! Ok, off the slang. I thought that this comic book had really sweet (cool) animation. I liked how they showed their actions in the book. For instance, when they're mad, you can tell THEY'RE MAD. It's really nice also because there are five of the smaller comic books combined into one for less mula, I mean money. The five main characters are Toya (Sakura's brother), Yuki (Toya's handsome friend), Tomoyo (Sakura's rich best friend), Kerberos (Kero is his nickname and he's the 'keeper of the clow cards'. A funny and hilarious 'stuffed animal' who talks), and, of course, SAKURA (The main character of the comic who is trying to find and capture all the clow cards). Sakura, the cardcaptor, was your average, athletic, fourth grader until she went down into the basement. There she found the Clow card book. Suddenly, when she opened it, images of creatures flew out of the book, surronding her, then left out of the room. Little did she know that this was the start of a hectic, long-going adventure. The comic book is also interesting because, like all Japanese comics, they have a little romance going on between two character, Yuki and Sakura. Hopefully, if you buy this book, you'll enjoy it as much as I do and be in suspense waiting for the next book supposedly coming out on December 31, 2000. ^_^

The best shoujo manga and best CLAMP work I've read

CLAMP has outdone themselves again. An ordinary girl named Sakura accidentally comes upon a magical book with missing cards. Without the book to hold the cards in, the cards become alive and wreck havoc on the world. It becomes Sakura's responsibility to capture those cards strategically. When she captures a card, she gains the ability to control that card. For example, capturing the Wind card allows her to control winds, and so forth. There are plenty of twists and side stories as well.CLAMP's artwork far surprasses all the other shoujo manga (Sailor Moon, Fushigi Yuugi, etc.)... in fact, their uniqueness and usage of detail make them my favorite manga artist overall. Card Captor Sakura is stellar, and unlike other shoujo mangas, Sakura doesn't wear the same boring uniform every day, which was a big plus for me. Eye candy aside, the story itself is excellently written and engrossing. If you are familiar with Magic Knight Rayearth or X/1999--the other two CLAMP works that are more well known here in the USA--I believe that Card Captor Sakura is better than either. Magic Knight Rayearth, at least the manga, was simply too short and much too rushed. On the other hand, X/1999 is much too drawn-out and confusing and shallow (due to the fact that fighting and gore scenes take up the vast majority of the manga's content). Card Captor Sakura has just the right combination of romance, action, humor, plot, pace, and mystery.

Disturbingly cute -- but you gotta love it!

The first thing you'll notice about Cardcaptor Sakura is theincredible "pinkness" of the cover. Yes, folks, this book isunabashedly aimed at girls. English-translation publisher Tokyopop.com (formerly Mixx) has made CCS the flagship title of its new "Chix Comix" line, although there's no reason why guys shouldn't enjoy it too. Despite being CLAMP's most cutesy, sugar-coated work ever, Cardcaptor Sakura still has a smart, engaging plot. Girl opens book, girl loses cards, girl has to get cards back. Okay, so it's not exactly "Magic Knight Rayearth" in terms of scope, but hey! We all love a good adventure story. However, it does tend to be formulaic at times, with Sakura fetching a new card every chapter or so. Then there's her silly schoolgirl crush, and the cute animal sidekick Kero, and the bratty older brother ...So why the 5 stars? Well, despite the lack of an earth-shattering plot, this cavity-inducing story is still a wonderful adventure to read. No two Sakura stories are the same -- she captures each new card using a new trick. The complexity increases after each chapter, which is what makes it fun. So, whether you're a guy or a girl, get this book and enjoy the adventures of everyone's favorite little cardcaptor, Sakura!
