There's the Grand Canyon as seen from one of the rims. Spectacular. Awe-inspiring. Dramatic. And there's the Grand Canyon below the rims, a very different place steeped in wilderness, bus-sized... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Interesting perspective on the canyon for armchair travellers and those seriously planning a visit

This is not 'How to hike the Grand Canyon.' If you are planning to actually hike rim-to-rim, or rim-to-river and back, this book would not do much to prepare you; however, reading it is still worthwhile. The author uses one particular rim-to-rim hike as a framing device to relay anecdotes and history about different segments of the three developed Corridor trails (North Kaibab, South Kaibab, and Bright Angel.) It helps put the journey through the canyon into perspective, and as someone who would like to attempt the hike one day, I found that it highlighted aspects of a canyon visit that sounded interesting and that I have not seen mentioned in any other guides or resources for the corridor trails. One star deducted because of the sometimes confusing switch back and forth between past anecdotes and the author's framing hike--and because I just didn't dig the author's forays into poetry. Overall, I enjoyed it and recommend it.
