A Good Read, But Too "Busy"...

Colleen O'Shaughnessy McKenna's "wacky" Murphy family is about to get bigger and crazier with the arrival of a new baby and with Collette beginning a Summer Camp for young kids in her backyard with Marsha and Marsha's rival Roger. The book started out as very fun a simple, but soon, near the end of the book, it became so busy I got a headache. First, (I'm summing this up quickly) Marsha decides to have a hat contest for the kids, and Collette's brother Stevie uses one of their mother's prize ruby rings to help himself win. The next thing I know, the ring is lost and Jeff (another brother) gets mad at Stevie, and then everyone begins accusing a girl named Kicky, who is a bit of a brat. Soon, Kicky and Stevie go missing...and there's so much more it would take up this whole site to talk about! Another thing that bugged me, too, is that Collette and company uses the prase "holy cow" too much, and it seems real old-fashoned. I'm a 13-year-old girl, and I havn't said "holy cow" in ages. Another one is "gosh." It's used too much throughout the book. "Gosh, I don't know." "Gosh, what am I going to do?" The kids sound too grown-up. But, Camp Murphy does have an older copyright. Good read, but a little too packed with events. From P.Q.

Great Summer Reading

The book I am reviewing is Camp Murphy by Colleen O'Shaughnessy McKenna. I think this book deserves five stars. I give this book five stars because it has a lot of problems to solve and it's a fun book to read. This book is about a girl and her two friends who want to start a summer camp. Lots of problems come up along the way! A problem that occurs in this story is that one of Collette's friends has to go to a different state to a wedding. Collette and Marsha, the two girls running the camp now, have to find another counselor! Will some kids run away from Camp Summer Fun? The only way to find out is to read the book. I would recommend this book to anyone. Emerson, NJ; fifth grade student
