The massive restructuring of industry - the mergers, acquisitions and reductions in staff has seen an accompanying epidemic of job-stress and workaholism. The average executive now works more than 57 hours a week.
Bought for hubby. He hasn't read it. Product came quickly and in excellent shape.
Balm for the Overworked Soul and Body

I was the midst of chronic overwork several years ago. This Daily Meditation was an important part of my daily routine thru the 80-100 hour work weeks and the toll it was taking on my physical, mental and spiritual health. I highly recommend it for anyone who needs a daily dose of help as they search for a better balanced life. I work a regular work week now and credit "Calling it a Day" for helping me during the most difficult times to find a healthier balance in life.
From "AHH! I'll never get it all done!" to sanity

As a workaholic, I'm always late for everything, because I try to fit 80 seconds into a minute and get five million things done at once. "Calling It a Day" actually gives workaholics permission to be human and take a breath. It's a daily meditation book that goes through the calendar year with a thought for every day and a healthy suggestion. As the reviewer on the back cover notes, we don't need to get ulcers in order to change our lifestyle. The book quotes such greats as Gandhi and Ralph Waldo Emerson and then discusses a topic for each day. A quote from the book that says it all for me is "today we whirl about like spinning tops, afraid that if we stop for a moment, we'll lose our balance and topple. We worry over every detail, fret over the slightest imperfection, and dizzy ourselves with mindless activity. We forget that, unless we slow down and come to rest, we can't lead truly balanced lives." (September 4). This book is exactly what I -- as I'm sure a lot of other workaholics -- have been needing. It's a shame it's out of print, although it was published in 1990.
