This was my first exposure to some real mathematics beyond high-school algebra; and I'll never forget leafing through it for the first time, at my local library, thinking: " wow, this stuff is awesome". Of course, I was still in elementary school at the time, but I was convinced, mathematics was beautiful, and worth persuing full-time. I thank Professor Bers for inspiring me to 'go with my gut'. And I still think, to this very day, *this* is the place one should start learning calculus. Every other calculus text ever written pales in comparison. Seriously.
Crystal clear explanations

I had come across this book in the university library. Before that I had been getting excellent marks in Calculus by mechanically going thru the rules in my mind. This book changed all that and gave me a proper perspective on the discipline. The explanations are clear and this book is eminently suitable for self study.Recommend this book whole-heartedly at least for the first and second years of calculus. This was about twenty-five years ago ! But it's just as relevant now.
