I'm doing calculus and intending to use it for computer programming. This book gives full coverage of several pieces of material which are not in or are poorly explained in the recent books on this subject. The author does an excellent job of giving a solid set of examples and exercises (that directly relate to the examples) that you can immediately dig into.
An excellent reference!

I used this book in my freshman calculus course quite some time ago, but found it very readable and well laid out. Since then I've gone back to grad school and am taking courses in mathematical physics and quantum mechanics. This book has been such an invaluable resource that I just bought another copy to replace the old one (which is totally falling apart!). It has been an essential tool for solving the grueling problem sets that have been assigned to me this semester. Being that this is an old and out of print edition, I was able to buy it for next to nothing, which makes it even better! Besides, calculus doesn't change, just the pretty pictures and graphs that get put into the calculus text books. Unless you need a certain book for a particular class, you'll be better off buying the 6th ed. of this book. It's much more affordable and has all the information as a $100 text...just less pictures.
