This book has some very good, high-level introductory chapters on Ancient Egyptian history, mythology and gods, society, and art and its evolution through time. There's even a chapter on deciphering hieroglypics! The section highlighting 50 of the Egyptian Museum masterpieces provides excellent commentary on each piece; however, for a broader, more in depth look with outstanding color photographs,Tiradritti's Egyptian Treasures is to die for. Likewise, regarding the pharaonic sites, there are better sources. Yet, I highly recommend this book as a synopsis or introductory overview. It's probably well suited to those who are not "wanna be" Egyptologists. I bought it used at a bargain, so why not?
