Loved this book and the first tie in,it reads like an episode. All around great book and a great price.

TV in your Mind

If you are a fan of Burn Notice on the USA network, you will enjoy this quick read. It is written in the same style as the program with Michael doing a lot of narration. The ending was a bit lame after the big build up to the climax. But it is a fun read for a fan.

Fun TV Tie-In Novel

Michael Westen is a former spy who now resides in Miami, trying to figure out the mystery behind his burn notice. Until he uncovers the truth, Michael takes odd jobs helping people. His latest client is a man who races a yacht in a high profile race. His family has been taken hostage, and he has been ordered to lose the race if he ever wants to see them alive again. Michael must not only learn who has the man's family, but hold off the Italian mafia who want nothing more than to win the race. As a fan of the TV show, I had to read this tie-in novel. I was pleasantly surprised. All of the action, adventure, and humor are wrapped up in this novel. It reads like you're watching an episode, with Michael's frequent spy tips and snarky comments. Michael's friends Fiona ("former" IRA arms dealer) and Sam (former Navy SEAL) team up with Michael yet again. And Michael's mom and brother make appearances and lead to more comedy relief as Michael must deal with trying to find his mom the perfect gift. Tod Goldberg has deftly written these colorful characters in a brand new adventure that will surely appease fans of the show. Bond fans shouldn't miss this series on TV or in print.

Michael Westen, "Mr. Marked for Death," is back in action again!

Michael Westen was a fairly decent covert operative doing his own thing and the next thing you know he was on someone's blacklist having to take on jobs he probably wouldn't have considered before. He could assassinate a man with ease, but had managed to avoid his own funeral . . . so far. He could be a secretive man and hard to find, but you only need ask his mother Madeline and she'd hand over his name, rank and serial number. He wasn't exactly the favored son and picking out a mother's day card wasn't high on his list, but it had to be done. He had better things to do. His ex-girlfriend, Fiona Glenanne, a gal who could crack heads with the best of them was a friend, if you could call her that. The only other person in his life, aside from his mother and shiftless psycho brother, Nate, was former Navy SEAL, Sam Axe. The life of an assassin could be a lonely one, until another job came up that is. There was one job on the horizon, a potentially hostile one. As Michael often thought, "if you're being interrogated by hostile forces, the end result is that you're going to be killed regardless." Gennaro Stefania was asked to throw a yacht race. His wife Maria Ottone and daughter Liz were being held captive and if he didn't lose the Hurricane Cup "they'd kill them both." Looked like Mikey, "Mr. Marked for Death," was back in action. He had a faint suspicion that psychopath Christopher Bonaventura might be behind this one. He got away with killing his father and his brother and Westen could well be next. This was a fast paced thriller with more twists than a corkscrew. This book is based on the television series, "Burn Notice," and true to form Michael, a burned-out spy, has been virtually wiped off the face of the earth. This is a comedic thriller and you won't be disappointed with Mikey and his hilarious sidekick Sam. Oh, and don't forget brother Nate and Ma! Anyone who forks over a few dollars to read about this PI is going to love it. The only thing missing from this book is a Robert "Bob" McGinnis cover illustration. If any book reminds me of the great vintage pulps, this one is it!

Action, Adventure, and Laughs with Michael and Company

The Hurricane Cup, a yacht race of the rich, has come to Miami. Normally, Michael would just ignore it, but this year, a friend of Sam's needs Michael's help. Gennaro Stefania, who will be piloting the family yacht in the race, is being told to throw the race or his wife and daughter will be killed. When Michael begins poking around, he quickly finds things are more complicated than he imagined. Suddenly, figuring out who is behind the threats might not be enough. Can he stay alive long enough to solve the problem? Fans of the series will find another enjoyable book to tide them over until the series returns. Once again, the characters from the TV show are spot on. Even the first person narration harkens back to the voice overs from the show. The plot seems a little muddled, but when I went back, thought about it again and reread some parts, it did sort itself out, so I was probably just being dense. The humor from the show comes through as well. Heck, some of the lines in this book were actually funnier than the TV show. What I found most interesting was that there was no attempt to deal with the burn notice aspect of the show's mythology in any meaningful way. Of course, considering how quickly that is changing on the show and how much lead time there is for the books, that makes sense. Frankly, I didn't really miss it. These characters truly are wonderful in any form. If you are a fan, get this book. And if you aren't, what are you waiting for? This is as good a place as any to jump in.
