Authentic Seeming Look at Showbiz

Even if you don't want to be an actor or actress, you will be drawn into the world of the theater in this fabulous book. Although ultimately nothing really desperate happens to the main character, Fitzi, and her family, some of their professional and financial struggles are shown, and being "on Broadway" is not all fame and fortune for Fitzi. Fitzi takes her job at the show seriously, and with the wise encouragement of her grandfather, learns to appreciate herself as an individual, without feeling too overwhelmed by the dazzling female child star. When the latter disappears, Fitzi's fears are handled realistically, and this plot device allows us to see Fitzi coping with ever greater challenges.The pacing of this book is wonderful, it's easy to get absorbed immediately and feel you are living the life of a struggling actress in New York. The author says a lot with few words, and draws fascinating characters in Fitzi and her family, and the other child stars of the show.
