The acclaimed author of Lie To Me offers a modern but truly Gothic horror tale . . . impossible to abandon once you've read a page or two.--Los Angeles Times Book Review. A terrifying psychological thriller penetrating the depths of human madness.

Heart-Thumping Horror!

This novel features: a blind doctor who is completely mad and sadistic; a washed-up reporter in turmoil; an exotically beautiful girl. There are depraved games of torture, and perverse eroticism.I was reading this book late one night when, just as I got into a scene with the mad doctor mutilating one of his victims, I was startled by a loud noise on the roof. I actually jumped, and my heart thumped. It was a possum running around up there. Even though I knew what it was I had trouble shaking the fear. This is the first book which has affected me so powerfully.I loved that sensation, and kept on reading right through the night until I had finished the book. David Martin is a master of suspense!

If this were ever made into a film it would be the scariest film ever with one of Hollywoods all time villians.John Lyon is an unemotional newsreader who breaks down on prime time whilst reading a story about dying children. He is then visited by an old women who tells him to investigate Mason Quindell and to find out about the truth about missing babies. Lyon rents a cabin where he meets some of the strangest twisted sadistic people ever to grace the pages of a novel. Martin has the knack of painting very vivid characters, and some really brutal and erotic scenarios. The book has characters rather than heroes and the reader is carried along at a frenetic pace.
What a ride!

John Lyons was an untouchable news anchor until he breaks down in a fit of sobbing on live national television. Now John has to redeem his image, following a strange story of abducted children in a quiet West Virginia town. He quickly runs into a blind doctor that is on the unusual side and finds out more than he ever wanted to know. A great read for those who enjoy their suspense and gore. Martin takes it to the limit in this novel. Very dark.
