Well worth it if you can find a copy!

This book is tricky to find, being out of print and from the 1950s, but well worth it! It starts with a bang, so to speak, with the main character being kidnapped, and rarely lets up. Adventure mixed with intrigue and romance all the way through, but very clean, little swearing and no 'bedroom scenes' descriptions. Lovely writing style, descriptive and with lovely characters all around.

I Love This Book!!!

I got a copy of this book out of a box if old books un the 1970's. Have read it so many times, I xan't recall!!! One of my favorite all-time favorite romances...not soft and silly like many romances, but solid characters that are believable and true to the historical time. I will continue to re-read this book forever! I'm pleased to know it's still in print.

My Favorite All Time Book!

My mother collected used Scottish books for me. Out of all the Scottish romance books I have read over the years this one is my absolute favorite. The history of the time in this book is spellbinding. I am fullfilling my lifetime dream of going to Scotland and decided I must read it again before I go this summer. The characters are so awesome, you never forget them.I will never forget when he purchases her a bracelet that is inscribed, "Fear na ye, My ain true luve."

Bride of the MacHugh

Wonderful romance! I have reread BRIDE OF THE MACHUGH many times since the early 80s. I really enjoy romances where the heroine is as much a part of her destiny as the hero. All the characters in this book are marvelous with Scotland, itself, the most fascinating character. Did Ms Speas ever write anything else?

One of my all-time favorites! Re-read so may times !

"Bride of the MacHugh" is one of my favorite books. I have read and re-read it so many times it is falling apart. The conflict established between the MacHughs and the Campbells is classic Scots feuding. Alex and Elspeth are well matched, both with enough arrogance and spirit to set their time and world aflame.

A wonderful historical romance

They just don't write books like this one anymore. The descriptions of Scotland's landscape are breathtaking, and provide the perfect backdrop to this story of romance and intrigue in seventeenth century Scotland.Elspeth Lamond is the product of a union between a Lamond and a Campbell, two warring clans, and she has grown up in King James' court. She goes to Scotland because of a promise to her dying mother. Once there, she meets the MacHughs, the clan allied with her father's clan against the Campbells. While mostly a romance, this novel also explores the political scene of the day, complete with clan warfare. If you like historical romance, you must read this book!
