Book Overview

Massie Block: The Briarwood boys have invaded OCD and are taking over everything. Worse, the soccer boys have become so popular that the Pretty Committee's alpha status is in serious jeopardy. So Massie lays out a New Year-New Pretty Committee rule: Anyone caught crushing on a boy will be thrown out of the NPC-forever. But will she be able to follow her own decree when she sees that Derrington has ditched his shorts-obsession in favor...

Eighth Grade changes everything

For the pretty committee, eighth grade is a living nightmare. After the pool accident at Briarwood academy the boys are forced to attend Octavian Country Day school with the girls. Massie feels betrayed, the boys are the new alpha and everyone but the pretty committee worships them, so Massie comes up with an idea/rule that all of the members of the pretty committee must follow; The pretty committee is now the new pretty committee, and that means that anyone who is caught crushing on a boy gets the boot. This is especially hard for Massie's beta; Alicia Rivera who is absolutely and completely in love with Josh hotz, who likes her just as much as she likes him. Josh and Alicia come up with a plan to stop Massie from realizing their togetherness. Of course, being the alpha that she is Massie sees right through it, and Alicia gets kicked out of the NPC. In the end Massie drops the ban on boys and welcomes Alicia back to the PC after some major mooching on Alicia's part!

Now OCD has become BOCD! The boys change everything. So instead of making this a chance to flirt with the boys and get their ex's back, Massie has comes up with the NPC. The New Pretty Committee, the one on a boyfast. Another one of Massie's crazy ideas. Can Massie stick to the boyfast herself or will she have to kick herself out of the exclusive group? Alicia is finally getting a chance with Josh Hotz, but will it all be ruined by Massie latest scheme? Or will she be caught? Dylan is ready to give up on boys. Will she be able to help the girls stay together? Kristen turned into a total surfer chick over the summer. Will the others approve? Claire still can not stop thinking about Cam. Exactly what she did all summer. But now he has a new girlfriend, and that doesn't make her very happy. What will she do to get him attracted to her again? And with an entire school of boys at OCD, where are all these people going to fit? How will the problems be solved? And maybe the "solution" is just the start of more problems. This is the one group of girls I love reading about, but also laugh at because of all the stupid things they do. It's fun to watch them make huge mistakes, but they always come back in a BIG way! A hit for this 29-year old, too!

With the boyfast firmly in place, Massie Block and crew prepare for the invasion of the Briarwood boys after the destruction of their wavepool drowns their school. Massie hands out gorgeous necklaces at the beginning of the semester to remind The Clique to remain boy-free, after their humiliating experiences last semester. Unfortunately, this isn't much of a challenge, as most of their crushes seem to have moved on to new OCD girls. No matter, The Clique can't be held down by circumstance, and when they (except Alicia) get moved to a funky trailer to make room for the boys, they make the best of it and manage to make even their LBR (Loser Beyond Repair) schoolmates seem somewhat cool. But even though the boyfast is supposedly going strong, each girl has some boy interest that jeopardizes her membership in the NPC (New Pretty Committee). How will Massie and crew come out on top (you know they will)? Read this guilty-pleasure book and find out.

You CAN judge a book by its ah-dorable cover!

I was so excited when book 9 of the Clique series finally came out. Bratfest at Tiffany's will not disappoint Clique fans. It is perhaps the best one yet! This book entertains us with stories of what happens when the Briarwood boys invade OCD. (think back to the end of book 8 when the wave pool destroyed their school, forcing the boys to attend school at OCD.) Nothing is the same for the NPC- not even their beloved cafe! With the boyfast in full-swing, the NPW- minus Alcica- are forced from the main building to attend class in overflow trailers. The NPC in a smelly, unstylish trailer filled with LBRs? Truly an entertaining read! There are also some unanswered questions about Florida, Massie's purple hair streak, a confidentiality contract, and a shark-tooth necklace....perhaps to be answered in the Clique Summer Collection? I am a middle school teacher who has turned so many girls onto reading by introducing them to the Clique series. Lisi Harrison's books are well-written, fun, sophisiticated, yet very age-appropriate.

A parent's review

A guilty pleasure for middle-school girls, this shallow, mean and funny novel skewers the 8th grade world in the same way Sex and the City does ours, though without the adult overtones. The catty, fashion-obsessed girls of the New Pretty Committee are like PG-rated versions of Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte. Their "ehmagawd" adventures are addictive. This latest Clique novel -- the 9th in the series -- starts with alpha leader Massie declaring a "boyfast" for the group. None of the girls can crush on a boy, or face expulsion from the NPC, and certain LBR status. LBR? Loser Beyond Repair. With tongue firmly in cheek, author Lisi Harrison slips in endless pop references and brand names. When Massie gets upset with herself, she gets "snippier than Katie Holmes' hairdresser in 2007." As long as girls take it all with a grain of salt, they'll love this little comic treasure.
