Mandatory reading for German exchange students

I recommend Martin Walser's classic book "Brandung" for every German exchange student coming to the US, or specifically to Berkeley and the Bay Area. Martin Walser wonderfully describes the perceptions, experiences and emotions of a life at the univerity in the US from a the prespective of a German.
