Fascinating history of Brandeis University

This book is an interesting history of Brandeis University written by its first President. I attended Brandeis from 1968-1972 and remember seeing Dr. Sachar often doing his research in the library there. He was a kind, very "grandfatherly" figure. He explains why and how Brandeis came to be, how the school attracted many scholars who had fled occupied Europe, and how it rose to prominence in a very short period of time. He has separate chapters on each of the major departments, and devotes a fair amount of space to some of its most famous professors, including Eleanor Roosevelt, Leonard Bernstein. Overall, a well-written, interesting volume.
