A good coming of age story

Middle school years are awkward and Jim knows this better than others- orphaned and rejected- he learns to adjust. The Orlando he moves to is not the disney paradise, but a hard scrabble world of bills and responsibities. Yet Billie and Jim each learn from each other. Billie is able to see Jim as an asset. And Jim, after a terrible lesson in the reality of animal life, is able to accept responsibity for his actions and move on. Any book for youth should help the reader discover that they will survive the teens.
