Intriguing historical novel, engaging and pleasant writing.

"He means to hang you at sunrise. They have already built the gallows." "The guard very kindly told me that they were building them, but I took that to mean that your brother intended to be prepared for the day in case we had a storm. Surely, you are mistaken about his intent to hang me tomorrow. By my calculation, tomorrow is Sunday. Would he hang a man on the Sabbath?" Grimly, she retorted. "Do you want to wager your life he will not?" He was silent. The only sound was the rattle of the keys as she continued to search for the keyhole. Janet Graham proved a faithful and devoted mistress to her brother-- Sir Hugh Graham's home in England. But when her brother captures the infamous Rabbie Redcloak and sentences him to die without a proper trial, she cannot stand by and let injustice be done. On her own, Janet orchestrates an effective plot to distract her brother's men, steal the keys to the captive's cell and release him. Everything goes as planned--well, almost--until the newly-freed prisoner decides he will not leave his beautiful and charming releasor behind--to do so would surely compromise her safety, he reasons. . Renowned reiver Rabbie Redcloak heads quickly for the Scottish Border, with his arms wrapped tightly around his latest steal. When they arrive at the stronghold at the Hermitage, Janet pleads with Laird Buccleuch to release her to her brother. Laird Buccleuch hesitates to honor her request, as she now knows the secret identity of Rabbie Redcloak--Sir Quentin Scott, the Hermitage's heir apparent. After careful thought and consideration, the Laird can come up with only one solution, that Janet and Quentin be married! Border Fire entertains a captivating premise for a passionate love affair between the English Lady Janet and the notorious Scott. Quentin portrays a charming, sexy hero to the beautiful intelligence of Ms. Graham. Through these characters, Amanda Scott effectively illustrates the tension between the English and Scots that play outs at the "Borders," while still igniting passion. Best-selling author Amanda Scott exhibits an engaging and pleasant writing style, into which she weaves threads of intriguing myth and historical detail. The first book in a trilogy set in the tempestuous 1596 Scotland, Border Fire has ignited my desire to quickly get the next book in my hot little hands. Lynne Remick, Reviewer

Very Good Book!

Amanda Scott has written a great book in Border Fire. I enjoyed it very much. It definitely reminds me of some of her earlier historical novels. The characters have a great checmistry as well.
