Book of Ki is a good basic introduction to the use of energy and how your mind and body work. It contains many useful and instructional photographs and does a good job of explaining what ki is and how it works. It stays away from a lot of the more mystical aspects and is pretty basic. Koichi Tohei states that "To extend Ki you must believe that you are doing so. In other words, you must use your mind positively." Many books lead you to believe that Ki is some mystical force that only comes from special training, but this book explains that it has a lot to do with your mind and your intention, and then goes on to give you basic instructions to begin to develop the use of this energy which we all have access to. A good introduction and worth reading if you have any interest in this part of the martial arts. Bohdi Sanders, author of Warrior Wisdom: Ageless Wisdom for the Modern Warrior
Developing KI

Koichi Tohei explains his four principles to unify mind and body. This book tries to help you learn these four principles, apply them and then teach them. The book is rather small, though its goal is large. It is very easy to read and understand by us westerners.

Interesting book, it gives examples of different ki building exercises that one can perform as well as an interesting story at the end.
Very Helpful!

I started studying this form of Ki shortly before I found this book. Having the book clarified what I was doing in class. Better, it allows me to practice on my own and helps, as the title suggests, with the application of Ki principles to everyday life--since in everyday life aikido throws can't usually be used to deal with problems. For example, how to maintain energized relaxation in difficult situations, how to sleep better, etc. I recommend it highly.
