I just finished reading Body Toll for the second time. I had to read it twice, as the first time I read it, I read so fast, just to see the outcome of the plot. On my second reading I really savored the smallest details, and the local area descriptions. My favorite part of the book was the bike chase and crash on Ponte Vedra Blvd...who thinks up stunts like that? The characters were well developed, and had great substance, and the extra dept of knowledge from a lifelong police officer really shows. I am an avid fan of writers like Kellerman, Deaver etc, and found this book by a first time author sits very well in their company. I can't wait for Thomason's next book...hope it will be a short wait!!

Grabs you from the first page. I seldom read murder mysteries because I think most of them are not true to life, but Bruce Thomason brings out the personalities of the various characters on the police force which I can identify with having been married to a lifetime state law enforcement officer who later became a police chief. Although this is a fictional situation, Bruce obviously brings his experience into play depicting police work as it really is and not full of a lot of razzle dazzle. I like that.
A "No-Sleeper"!

Very seldom do you find a new author that enthralls you from the first word - that is what I found in Bruce Thomason's "Body Toll"! The characters are both good and evil and the plot keeps you guessing. A good, old-fashioned "who-done-it" that will keep you reading all night. Keep up the good writing! Anne Richardson
Authentic, action-packed Thriller that Keeps You on the Edge of Your Seat

Body Toll "Body Toll" is an action-packed story that rings true in it's depiction of characters that are well developed and believable, and the interaction of the characters show the reader a great deal of what true law enforcement is all about. Some of the law enforcement characters are a little "rough around the edges", yet they all work as a team (except for the very few bad cops) and this gives the book further authenticity and the reader insight into the real world of a demanding profession. The "bad guys" are well developed and convincing, and give the reader a great deal to ponder trying to figure out the identity of the real killer. The reader is also given insight into the political side of law enforcement agencies, which always plays a major role in the outcome of any investigation. IMHO, the authors credentials give this thriller a great deal of credence that I think would be difficult for an author who had not "walked the walk" as this author surely has, devoting almost 40 years to the simple but pure concept of "serving and protecting" his fellow citizens. One major point I was very glad to see is the authors use of God's name and the officers' belief in the Almighty. So many authors nowadays either play to what they think the reader wants to read (and leave God out entirely), or display their own lack of any religious beliefs [obviously, JMHO]. The fight scene near the close of the book was extremely realistic, when Officer Randall & the villain had it out. Dana Randall's independent nature and reckless disregard of a dangerous storm rang true to this reader, as I've lived on the Gulf Coast for most of my life and know this exact type of disregard so often seen when a hurricanes landfall is imminent. This book left me satisfied and but with a thirst for one thing, and that's another Bruce Thomason novel, hopefully a sequel.
