Body at Home - Practical

I had not heard of Jorge Cruise before I read his book, since I have read every weight-loss books that comes out, why not this one. I was hoping something would click this time. Well, I truly enjoyed the practicallity of this book. I think I got it - same message but stated so logically that it really hit home this time. What I got from it was that I can eat my regular foods just use portion control. Great, Great! form for tracking what you eat. He gives you the portion - you fill in the blank. I have memorized the form and it really works for me. I have been following the princples and I have lost 6 pounds. It just makes sense and gives structure.

Good Workout, Will Help You Build Muscle and Lose Weight

This DVD is essentially a follow-up to Jorge Cruise's "12 Second Sequence" workout DVD. "Body at Home" uses slow cadence lifting and static contraction in the workouts. There is a recovery stretch after each workout, which gives you a chance to stretch after each workout section (four repititions of one exercise, then a 30 second recovery stretch). You work the legs, shoulders and abs, it is a complete workout. I recommend getting a balance ball and smaller weights with the workout (although these are not required, it is easier if you have these items to follow along). I also recommend Jorge's "Belly Fat Cure" (which is essentially minimizing sugar intake) available on Jorge's website. So far this year, I have lost about 15 lbs. following the "Belly Fat Cure" and using Jorge's workout DVD's. My only (minor) criticism is that his audio commentary could have used some better editing. But overall this is a very good workout, he recommends you do the three 20 minute workouts over a week (for example, one 20 minute workout on Monday, one on Wednesday and one on Friday).

Excellent book. I tweaked my routine a little. Since I got the book, I have lost 25 pounds. It was motivational more than anything!

Great routines

While Jorge Cruise did not invent this style of slow rep weight training as he claims (as I've been reading books and implementing this style of weight lifting for 10 years), I like this book for the variety of workouts. I use to have my list of 15 or so exercises that I would do and would have to figure out each time what I'm going to do, so I love just flipping the page and having it right there. I believe there's around 3 months' worth of routines and then you can just start over again, so I'm really enjoying his routines and the variety of them. One review complained about him not mentioning warming up. I've read numerous books on this style of weight lifting and when you lift this slowly, warming up is not necessary. The jacket of the book does make you believe you don't need to buy much for his workouts, but you do need a good set of dumbbells or resistance bands. He asks you to use resistance bands, a medicine ball, and dumbbells, but I just modify the exercises enough that I can get by with just using the resistance bands, which I bought his recommended GoFit set for about $25 and I am completely satisfied.

It worked! I was able to drop 10 lbs in the 2 weeks and I'm still going strong. Since I'm in my late 40's and haven't exercised in quite a few years, I was cautious, but the work out routines are challenging enough so I won't get bored yet not so difficult that I want to give up right away. A lot of common, sense good reading and easy to follow instructions. I used this book in conjunction with Jorge's other book the '3 Hour Diet'. Excellent compliment to one another and very informative.
