This is a coming of age story of a young woman growing up in a small town in New Jersey in the 1950's. It deals with the discovery of knowing your family with all their faults...her father having a mistress who dies and leaves her estate to his wife and daughter, her father's mother who is 100 years old and still rules the family, her mother, a southerner who lays on the couch reading and eating bon bons but dresses each day as if to dine with the King of France. The family drifts apart over the years as the young woman grows and becomes a remarkable woman and in doing so finds out the wonderful secrets of her family.
