John Kohler lives in Michigan's Upper Peninsula near an Indian reservation. A long-held dislike of his Native neighbors has lain almost dormant for many years until the arrival of a favorite niece, who ignites his hatred by her involvement with local tribal members. For the sake of the girl, he struggles with his animosity, but the strength of his prejudice overcomes his family loyalty, and leads him to acts of destruction. Resolution can only be found in surrendering to the truth which has been pursuing him from within his entire life.
