Fantastic start of a new paranormal series

Darcy has no idea that she is a witch, till some strange events on the day of her foster mother's funeral gets her wondering. Suddenly she is attacked only to be saved by a man who has his own plans for her. Axel hopes that Darcy will be able to lift the curse from his sister, who has the death mark on her. But the problem is that Darcy is a witch and Axel a witch hunter. To make the situation even more complicated there is an undeniable attraction between them and her life is threatened by her real father. Will they be able to find a way to overcome the curse? Ms. Lyon, has with BLOOD MAGIC written the stunning start of a new series. The story idea of the conflict with the witches and witch hunters is something new and that sets this series apart from the usual paranormal romances. Ms. Lyon gifts her readers with an interesting and intriguing set of characters. Axel is torn between is attraction to Darcy and his loyalty to his family and friends. He is tortured by the death curse that threatens his little sister and the taunting of his father, who plays an important role among the rogue witch hunters, who gave into the bloodlust and lost their souls. Darcy's life changes within a blink of an eye. She has to deal with the fact she is a witch and that suddenly the life of a small child lies in her hands, as well as the endangerment of her own life from the rogue witch hunters, especially the leader, who is her real father. I really got caught up in the story as soon as I started reading. I could hardly put the book down and I am so curious about the upcoming sequel Soul Magic, which will be released in December 2009. Ms. Lyon is definitely an author that you want to keep an eye on. Her book is definitely a keeper and I bet the whole series will find their way to your keeper shelf. REALLY GREAT new series!

Very very rarely do I give 5 stars to any book, but I loved Blood Magic. It was very easy to get to know the characters and enter a world quite a bit different than any other paranormal books I have read before. Darcy is very likeable and Axel is all you could hope for in a romance hero. If you want a new romance series I would really recommend this book. Can't wait till Sutton's book comes out in November.

Hot Sexy Wing Slayers -- YAY!

I read romances, and I read paranormals and I am a picky, picky, picky reader. Particularly when it comes to the first book in a series. So many writers get wrapped up their world building they forget to tell a great story. But not Jennifer Lyon. This isn't just a first book in a series, it's a GREAT first book that makes me so impatient for the next. The witches, the demons, the magic, the sex -- and, oh yeah, did I mention AXEL?!?! Quick -- get me a drool-cover so I don't wreck my book! Can't wait for the next one, Ms. Lyon. WRITE QUICKLY, please!

wonderful urban romantic fantasy

Funeral director Darcy MacAlister finds arranging her beloved mom's funeral is a catharsis of sorts although hearing some speak of the deceased as if she was evil bothers her enough that her Special Forces cousin Joe notices and tells her to ignore the fools. At about the same time that she buries her mom, witch hunter Wing Slayer Hunter leader Axel Locke is worried that his sister Hannah has been attacked by a death curse. He knows only two ways to save her: either the curse is lifted or a witch must die. Axel knows if he kills an innocent witch his soul will burn, but those witches who broke their sacred vow to protect humans from demons by switching sides are another matter as their former guardians like him are obsessed with killing the traitors. Axel abducts a terrified Darcy whom he recognizes as an earth witch. He hopes to gain her cooperation by having her lift the spell. However though she commiserates with Hannah's dilemma, she never knew that witch blood flowed in her veins. Time is running out although she agrees to try to break the curse. This is a fabulous opening act of a wonderful urban romantic fantasy starring two intriguing protagonists with an unwanted attraction pushing them towards each other and a blood curse pulling them apart. The story line is fast-paced, but owned by the lead pair as they "naturally" squabble while struggling to save his sibling. Jennifer Lyon bewitches sub-genre fans with this terrific thriller. IN A SEA OF PARANORMAL ROMANCE, HERE IS ONE AMAZING GEM!

I am a big fan of paranormal romance, and very particular about, not just quality of writing and the plot, but the characters. Well, the characters in Blood Magic DO NOT disappoint. They stay with you long after the book is finished. I swear, Axel and Darcy jumped off the page, pulled me into their action packed, super steamy story and took me for one great ride. My only gripe is that I read it too fast, and now what? Is there another one coming? And if so, when? And who's story is it going to be? More WINGSLAYER HUNTERS please!!! Jennifer Lyon is definitely an author to watch!
