'Black Sun', which was written by James Tarabilda, published in 1980, could have been a terrific mystery novel set in the Chicago suburbs. For three-quarters of 'Black Sun', author Tarabilda had me spellbound, with an absolutely first-rate murder mystery. The author has a wonderful, breezy writing-style that pulls the reader into this absorbing story. He has characters that are normal, everyday people, and we find ourselves caring for them very deeply, which is a tribute to Mr. Tarabilda's writing talent. I found myself turning page after page, not knowing where this author was taking me. Unfortunately, 'Black Sun' turns into a 'horror' novel in it's final quarter, crossing over into the territory of Stephen King! What a shame as the world really doesn't need another carbon copy of that illustrious and celebrated author, even if it is a good copy. James Tarabilda has the talent to write a great contemporary, murder-mystery novel, a genuine 'who-done-it' with an American setting, and should leave the ghouls and goblins behind.
