The Skyy's the Limit

BlackSkyy: The Lady in Black Series hits the literary world by force. Sandora "Sandy" Knight, by day has a high profile fortune 500 job, but at night transforms into a one team vigilante known as Skyy. Growing up, Sandora and her brother witness the brutal murder of their mother, she is determined to avenge her mother's death by not falling victim to her circumstances. Skyy's on a mission, an assignment from God to put a stop to the transgressions that are taking place against the youth in her community. A serial killer is on the loose and Skyy is determined to find the murderer before anyone else is victimized. Even though Skyy has put everything into resolving this crime, she has not been able to capture the maniac who has become a threat to every woman's young daughter in the community. Time is running out for Skyy; she knows that at any time tragedy could strike again. I loved the role of the sophisticated, strong, sexy, beautiful, black female heroin, although I did find some of the characters and her daredevil rescue missions unbelievable and over the top, even for fiction. Also her label dropping throughout the book was way over done. This book was like a breath of fresh air - it strayed from the status-quo and provides you a story that is an action-packed thriller with a flavor of eroticism thrown in. I would recommend this book to a friend that is interested in reading a different genre or a super-hero lover, either way they wouldn't be disappointed. A Strong Black Woman

Goal driven business woman by day, Sandora "Sandy" Knight sheds her cosmopolitan veneer at night to become Black Skyy, the Lady in Black, a sleek, sexy, cut-throat diva-hero who, through her mastery of martial arts and other deplorable but deserving tactics, fights to protect innocent children from the world's scum. While simultaneously heading a plot to become CEO of a Fortune 500 company and trailing the scent of a brutal child murder, Sandy battles personal insecurities and struggles to validate her own self worth. Intoxicating from the very beginning, Janet Stevens Cook delivers a quick but powerful read laced with jaw-dropping suspense, raw but clever wordplay, and eroticism teetering on edge of controversy. Unfortunately, Sandy 's life serves as a mirror to some independent Black woman; while believing in the goodness of others, sometimes we forget to celebrate ourselves. A definite page turner, Cook will have you sleeping with one eye open and second guessing the people you think you know at work. The first in a series, I'm hooked, and look forward to riding hot steel with Black Skyy in her next escapade. 4 Sistah Hugs Sistah Tasha of the SistahFriend Book Club

(4.5 stars) To Protect and Serve.

By day, Sandora "Sandy" Knight runs a Fortune 500 company and is as straight-laced as they come. By night, she is a sexy vigilante called Skyy, The Lady In Black. Skyy's mission is to help and to protect innocent people who have been victimized by various low-life scum. Skyy is about to face her biggest challenge yet when a serial killer is on the loose. Time is running out as more and more African-American little girls are found dead all over the city. Skyy is doing everything in her power to catch this serial killer but could the suspect be right under her nose? Black Skyy: The Lady In Black Series is a wonderfully daring novel by Janet Stevens Cook. Cook did an exceptional job in creating The Lady In Black character. Skyy is doing what she believes is her destiny to do while she struggles with just being an average, everyday woman. Skyy is a modern day super-hero but you won't find any of the cliché super-hero attributes like super-human strength or magical powers. What you will find is a woman that's trying to do what she can to make the streets a little safer. This novel is full of high drama and heart-stopping action that will leave readers begging for more. Black Skyy: The Lady In Black Series is a suspenseful and exciting novel that is perfect for a reader that is looking for a fresh new story with a twist. This is the perfect start to The Lady In Black Series. Reviewed by Radiah Hubbert for Urban Reviews

(RAW Rating: 3.5) - Lady Shaft

Sandora "Sandy" Knight is the product of a drug-addicted mother and preacher's son turned drug dealer. As the oldest child, she is tasked with protecting her brother, Malcolm, from the harsh realities of life. After their mom is brutally murdered, Sandy vows to seek revenge against her killers. She also makes a pledge to help those who can't take care of themselves - innocent children. Thus her alter-ego, Skyy Knight, The Lady in Black is born. Sandy is vice-president of Bledsoe Communications, Inc., where she started out as a mailroom clerk while attending college. While developing her career, she was able to put Malcolm through law school. Her after hours are spent chasing predators who victimized young children, her most recent being the School Yard Murderer who is known for abducting young African-American females from schools, torturing and killing them. When his latest quest is a little too close to home, Skyy has to fight to stay ahead all the while plotting to avenge her mother's killers. BLACK SKYY is the first book in the Lady In Black series from Strebor Books. With elements of mystery, adventure and intrigue, this series shows promise. The plot was laden with too much background information for the minor characters. There were also too many characters to keep up with, two of whom shared the same name. Cook is adept at building the suspense, which worked well for the story. Hopefully, with future installments, the characters will be streamlined and the focus can be on those characters and developing their storylines. Vengeance is Hers

BlackSkyy: The Lady in Black Series: Book One by Janet Stevens Cook is a jaw-dropping debut. Sandora "Sandy" Knight is a successful woman, running a Fortune 500 company. She is a true paradox because by day she is an almost mousy executive. However, by night she is the beautiful, sexy Lady in Black who is out avenging the wrongs being done to the youth. The novel starts off with Sandy and her brother seeing her mother killed in front of their eyes. The scene was very graphic and startling. What it does however is set you up for why Sandy becomes who she is. The novel is told in alternating chapters that move from the past to present day. Sandy has taken it upon herself to avenge the wrongs that are done to children. She sincerely believes that it is her mission from God to seek revenge against those who have harmed or are harming children. Some of the scenes were so graphically violent they were at times difficult to read. It is also clear that Sandy's mission is to avenge the death of her mother. BlackSkyy generates heat with its sexual scenes. What made BlackSkyy: The Lady in Black Series enjoyable for me were the underlying stories of her concerns for her community and how she did not allow her past to stop her from improving her life or that of her brother. I recommend the novel to those interested in a fast-paced, action-packed erotic thriller. I am definitely interested in reading book two. Angelia Menchan APOOO BookClub
