Terrific!!

One that will stay with you!!! It's great!!!!!

a great adventure that covers alot of ground

spock..traitor? sounds impossible doesn't it? without giving too much away, I think just about any reader will be wondering about how this one's going to pan out.. there's alot of subplots in this book, but sonni cooper wraps them all up nicely AND doesn't lose the reader in the process the primary focus is on spock and this is just another example of how great the character was and IS, especially when in the hands of someone who knows how to write him well out of all the trek books I've read this is definetly up there as one of my favorites if not my very favorite so far...GREAT story that would have probably made a fantastic movie

Best of the Best

Easily the best of the Star Trek books. It's just too bad that Sonni Cooper didn't write any of the movies. Unlike many other books that try to be episodes, Cooper went beyond the simple do-nothing formula and made a real adventure with a story that was much better than the average episode-wannabe book.

Excellent Read

I loved this book, I read it about once every year. Spock in cloak-and-dagger mode is intriguing. As for an earlier comment,(SMALL SPOILER) his suicide attempt was, in fact, quite logical. He was crippled and his companions would not escape (and thereby warn the Federation) without him.(END SPOILER) As far as behaving as we would expect the characters do, I thought they did, especially the Spock-McCoy relationship. Nothing in the book was unreasonable, nothing insofar unreasonable as a lot of Star Trek V (the crew turning on Kirk for example) which is canon while Black Fire is not. BF is an excellent read, like a lot of the 80's ST novels like the Entropy Effect.

what a roller coaster ride!

This is the best Star Trek book I have ever read, even including all of the new ones! Why didn't Sonni Cooper keep writing?

An Absolute wonderfull example of early 'Trek storywriting

I first read this book after scrounging through the Star Trek novels in my local library. It looked interesting and I can only say that it was thoroughly enjoyed. A few hours of reading bliss. After reading it, I rushed to my local used sci-fi book store and bought a copy. Since then, I have probably read it about 8 or 9 times. It is DEFINANTLY worth a repeated reading. Five stars. A Star Trek or fantasy classic.
