Black Diamonds and Silk is a sociopolitical piece that started as poems in a journal. The first section of the book is a series of poems chronicling different relationships and events of significance in the author's life. The second section takes the form of a short play, an urban bildungsroman that examines what it means to be a Black man in modernity, and how ethnicity, sexuality, socioeconomic background, and religion are navigated through this scope. True to the author's Brooklyn roots, Spoken Word is used to drive the plot forward as music would in a musical. In essence, it's answer to "For Colored Girls", this is For Colored Men.
