Students at the remote Shibara karate dojo thought they could escape the political turmoil of 1930s Japan. But when Imperial soldiers arrive to evict them, a violent confrontation erupts that leaves the dojo's peaceful master mortally injured. He instructs his two best students that using their skills for the greater good will decide who will be his successor. While one student tries to walk the path of non-violence, the other becomes seduced by the promise of power, setting them on a collision course towards an inevitable final duel.
