He told me he loved me and I believed him. When Alex falls for the charming new boy at school, Cole -- a handsome, funny sports star who adores her -- she can't believe she's finally found her soul mate . . . someone who truly loves and understands her. At first, Alex is blissfully happy. Sure, Cole seems a little jealous of her relationship with her close friend Zack, but what guy would want his girlfriend spending all her time with another boy? As the months pass, though, Alex can no longer ignore Cole's small put-downs, pinches, and increasingly violent threats. As Alex struggles to come to terms with the sweet boyfriend she fell in love with and the boyfriend whose "love" she no longer recognizes, she is forced to choose -- between her "true love" and herself.
I really enjoyed this teen drama/domestic abuse book. Some of the book was kinda scary to read it kept you wondering what was going to happen to her, if she was going to make it out alive or how things were going to be afterwards. Some of these events that happen in the book can be triggering for some people but it also can help them feel like they’re not alone even when they feel it. I love the fact there is a list of helpline numbers for anyone in any situation who needs to reach out for help and to find resources which is amazing. I truly believe this book should be read so other teens or even adults can get insight into what happens in traumatic situations or have insight of what it looks like to watch out for in a relationship as well as the list to help give others more of chance of getting out before it’s too late because there’s resources out there.
Did not purchase through this site, but I own a copy of this book...

I've read it twice all the way through---once in high school and the other within the past six months for refreshment. This is a phenomenal book and does a great job with touching on how tightly-woven people can get in domestic violence situations, yet wanting to stay in hopes to make it heal. The character development is okay; I would've loved to gotten more of a background on supporting characters rather than just the small profile that we're given. I love that resources are provided at the end of the book, including a Q&A and ways that you can help others who come from these situations.
