Lovely narrative, cute pictures

Lovely story that I use in preschool and early grade school reading groups for low achieving readers. This story holds the interest of challenged students who have slipped through the cracks of standard classroom reading. I would like to see this series use more characters with different skin tones since my students are Hispanic and Haitian origin. But the kids do not seem to mind as they concentrate on the puppy and his adventures. Even low students can tell me what Biscuit says and can role play Biscuit.

Nibbles has come to visit!

Reviewed by Cayden Aures (age 5 ½) and Mom for Reader Views (02/10) "Biscuit Meets the Class Pet" is part of the "I Can Read!" series of books. This one is geared toward emergent readers. Cayden: "The girl brings home the rabbit named Nibbles to see Biscuit. I wonder why she gets to bring home the class pet. I wonder if we will ever have a class pet and I will get to bring it home. There were lots of the same words in this book like `Woof, woof' and `Hop, hop.' I liked that I could read this book. The only word that I didn't know was Nibbles, the bunny's name, but it was easy to learn that one. I like when Nibbles hides and they can't find him, but then they do." Parent's comments: "Biscuit Meets the Class Pet" by Alyssa Satin Capucilli is another great Biscuit book. The words are simple and the illustrations are fun. We love the "I Can Read!" series of books! Being able to read books in their entirety on his own really helps my son to build his confidence. He was so proud that he was able to read this whole book to his little brother!
