Great Historical Mystery

I found this novel to be a most engrossing tale of the age-old conflict between rival siblings. Set to the background of the War Between The States, "Birthright" moves at a fast-paced, yet informative flow. In my considered opinion, this novel will appeal to lovers of good fiction and to historically oriented war buffs as well! A rating of 5 stars does not do this work justice.

Author is great storyteller!

This book was very well-written with strong characters and a plot that kept me interested throughout. The Civil War backdrop was informative, but not over the top. Great read!!

Fantastic Book!

The Civil War was a great background for the mystery and suspense, as well as the love story in this novel. It was a real page turner that I couldn't put down. The 2 brothers, Winston and Jeremy, are complete opposites, and their differences fascinated me. Pritchard, Jeremy's accomplice in his plot to defraud Winston, is the epitomy of evil. I also enjoyed watching Andrew, Winston's son, mature, fight in the Civil War, and fall in love. I highly recommend this book.

An Educating and Entertaining Read

Birthright is a novel I just had to make time to finish once I started! It is first an easily understood and historically accurate account of the Vicksburg Campaign in the Civil War and the society it impacted. It further manages the interrelated plots among the characters most successfully. The rapport between the aristocratic planter Winston Carthage and the progressive newsman Samuel Morris is particularly well portrayed. I look forward to another novel from Clay Blount.

Intriguing story

"Birthright" is a good mystery: well-written, lots of suspense, and good characterization. I never lost interest, and the plot was not contrived. I really liked the Civil War as background; the time period added to the story's meaning. I highly recommend this book.
