Awesome Bird Book

My Mom and Dad had this book when I was growing up. I am so glad to find it to share with my grandchild.

Great starter bird book for kids!

The Golden Book on Birds is well written, well illustrated, and is just one marvelous little book. When I was a young boy, starting around First Grade, my mom (who was a librarian at the time) got me all of the different Golden Guides on nature, including the one on Birds. I used to read this book over and over again, and along with the other Golden Guides, it helped shape my life and my lifetime love of nature...especially of birds. Today as an adult, I call myself a birder, I go out and look for birds and keep a long (and always growing) life list of birds seen in the wild and identified. I'm a bird lover. I am also a writer (Allergy-Free Gardening, Birthday Boy, Safe Sex in the Garden, The Highway Naturalist, etc..), and a former science teacher, and I recommend buying and giving these books as presents to all children. You might well strike a spark that will trigger a life long appreciation and fascination with nature. This book on trees might well also be interesting and useful as a first book on birds for anyone with a budding interest in wildlife, trees, nature. But as with all the Golden Guides....these books are wonderful tools to create interest in young kids. For adults I would recommend a bird book such as one of the Sibley's Guides, but for kids...the Golden Book on Birds is a darn good one to start with. Get each youngster his or her own book, and encourage them to write in the book, to make notes, to jot down dates as to when they first saw each bird. This is a very fine book!

Best Family Reference Ever

This book has become very popular with our friends and family because it gives accurate color drawings with an easy-to-read, informative text. It has been updated twice over the years. A great, compact gift for for both children (7+) and adults.

Golden Guide to Birds

I already have this book and use it often. The information is written understandingly and the pictures are very good. When my son requested a bird book, I immediately went for this one.

I love these Fandex Guides!

A fantastic "quick & dirty" reference tool! The PERFECT aid for persons in the online auction selling business. For example, I had a lovely antique plate that I wanted to put up for auction. This particular plate featured a bird sitting in a tree. I got out my trusty Fandex Bird Guide and there it was ... a Yellow Warbler. I then got out my equally trusty Fandex Tree Guide and there it was ... the Downy Hawthorne Tree. Therefore, instead of describing my treasure as a plain ol' "Bird Sitting in Tree - Plate", I was able to give it the justice it deserved and described it as a "Lovely Yellow Warbler Nesting Atop a Downy Hawthorne Branch - Plate".

A great guide for beginning birders and children

This was either the first or second bird guide I ever owned. It's a birding guide that contains the most common species of birds that you'll see. The maps are good, the drawings are excellent, and the information on each bird is great. Greater starter guide for beginners and children.
